The State Library of Ohio was formed in 1817 by a resolution of the General Assembly of Ohio, which resolved as follows:
"Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, that the thanks of this General assembly, be, and are hereby presented to his Excellency the Governor, for his attention in providing for their accommodation; and especially for his attention in commencing a state Library for the use of the members."
We are thrilled to share with you the history of our library in this, our bicentennial year. Throughout the year we will bring you new stories and items of interest, so we hope you will visit us often. Feel free to ask questions and interact with us via the comment fields included with each item or, if you would rather, email Shannon Kupfer at firstname.lastname@example.org.
If you are a former State Library of Ohio staff member or have memorabilia you would like to have included, please reach out! We would love to make sure that everyone is able to participate in this trip down memory lane!
